  • Atkinson Music Inc. – When you’re ready to have a grown-up pedalboard with the right power and custom fit cables, call Mike Atkinson. You won’t regret it. Mike does great work and is fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. Clean up that sloppy pedalboard already!
  • Collings Guitars – I started playing Collings guitars in 2003 and have never looked back. I own several of their instruments and they’re all of the very highest quality.
  • Buscarino Guitars – John has been a friend for many years and makes the finest hand-made guitars available. His workmanship and customer service is from the old world. He also builds the best speaker cabinets in the business. They’re called Chameleon cabinets and I also use a pair of them with my jazz rig and nylon-string guitar.
  • Acoustic Image Amps – I use the Clarus head as an integral part of my jazz rig. The Clarus/Chameleon combination, along with a Sansamp pre, is my jazz rig in a nutshell.
  • Tech21 Sansamp – The Sansamp Para Driver preamp mentioned above is the third component of my jazz rig. I use it to fine-tune the eq on my Clarus and add just a bit of warmth to the sound.
  • K&K Sound – I use the K&K Mini soundboard transducer in my Collings flat-tops because it has the most natural acoustic sound of any pickup I’ve tried.
  • Matchless Amps – What can I say; sometimes you just gotta have a tube amp, and these are the best.
  • Radial Engineering/Primacoustic – The Radial Tonebone PZ preamp is a well-built, heavy-duty pre that I use in conjunction with my acoustic amps to give me more surgical tone-shaping capabilities. I also use their Primacoustic room treatment panels in my recording studio.
  • Thomastic Strings – I use Thomastic Spectrum Bronze strings on my Collings Winfield and I love the way they sound and feel. They’re a bit more expensive than some other brands, but the sound I get with them, especially on that particular guitar, makes it worth the extra money. I also use the Bebop round-wound strings on my jazz guitar.
  • Schoeps Microphones – A couple of years ago I hosted a small-diaphragm condenser mic shootout for Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. The Schoeps CMC64 mic was my personal favorite in the comparison, and I’m happy to say I’ve got a stereo pair of them in the studio.
  • Mel Bay Publishing – When I first started playing guitar I worked out of the Mel Bay Guitar Method. After all these years the company continues to publish high-quality educational material for all aspects of music. I’m proud to say they also published my book Flatpicking Up The Neck.
  • Flatpicking Guitar Magazine – I write a bi-monthly column for FGM magazine and have been on the staff for several years now. It’s been a great way for me to connect to the larger community of flatpicking guitarists out there and I’m happy to be associated with Dan Miller’s outstanding publication. FGM has also published two of my books; A Study in Flatpicking and The Guitar Player’s Right Hand Workout.
